How Coachman Acadia, VIP, Laser and Lusso compare

Coachman’s Acadia, VIP, Laser and Lusso names look like a straightforward progression through the caravan range. For a buyer, the more useful comparison is how width, layout and equipment change between them.

The latest collection makes that especially clear. Acadia’s move to a wider body means a VIP can now be the narrower option even though it sits higher in the range. If you’re comparing new and used caravans, the year belongs near the top of your checklist.

Manufacturer information checked on 17 October 2026, including the 2027 collection.

Key takeaways

  • The 2027 Acadia range is entirely 8ft wide.
  • VIP is the standard-width option in the current collection.
  • Laser and Lusso offer different ways to combine wide-body space and premium equipment.
  • The Lusso III bedroom changes for 2027, so check the floorplan carefully.

Coachman range differences at a glance

Coachman’s 2027 collection announcement confirms changes across all four ranges. These are current-season distinctions, not specifications to apply to every used Coachman.

There’s a useful spread of generations on our used Coachman caravans for sale page. Compare the exact model and year rather than assuming an older Acadia or Lusso follows the latest layout.

Acadia changes the width decision for 2027

The current Acadia range brings 8ft-wide bodies throughout. Coachman lists Alde wet central heating and hot water, plus a Scorpion S7 tracker among its standard features.

A wider caravan is most convincing when it gives you usable clearance. Try opening the fridge while someone stands at the worktop. Walk past the dining table, sit beside the bed and check how easily you can reach the washroom. Those movements matter more than a photograph’s impression of space.

Acadia’s new 655 Xtra also deserves attention if bedroom separation matters to you: it combines an L-shaped front lounge, central washroom and rear transverse island bed. Ask the seller to show how the doors divide those areas, then picture an early riser moving around while someone else sleeps.

VIP remains relevant if you prefer a narrower body

For 2027, VIP is the collection’s standard-width range at 2,310mm. Its five layouts continue, with changes concentrated on the interior, exterior and equipment.

The VIP specification includes the updated Alde control arrangement, with bedroom control, and USB-equipped reading lights. These are details to try during a demonstration, particularly if you tour outside the warmer months or regularly charge devices beside the beds.

A narrower body may fit your driveway or preferred storage arrangement better. Measure rather than estimating from the wheels or mirrors of your tow car. Leave space to open the habitation door and lockers, and establish where the caravan can turn safely.

Laser gives you another wide-body shortlist

The Laser range is built around the 8ft platform, with single- and twin-axle fixed-bed choices. Its kitchen equipment includes a dual-fuel hob, oven, grill and microwave.

Take a little time around the fixed bed. A comfortable mattress is only part of the story: you also need to get in, get dressed and reach under-bed storage without a daily struggle. Check whether bedroom doors can close with bedding in place.

In the kitchen, test the available preparation area after setting out a kettle and breakfast dishes. Decide whether you’ll normally cook inside or use an awning kitchen. That gives the equipment list a practical purpose and helps avoid paying for features you rarely use.

Lusso buyers should check the bedroom generation

One particularly important change is the 2027 Lusso III. Coachman replaces its earlier fixed-single-bed arrangement with a transverse island double and rear washroom. It also provides the parallel-front-settee alternative within a range associated with L-shaped lounges.

For the rest of the flagship comparison, use the Lusso range details and the floorplan for the individual caravan. The Lusso IV places its rear transverse island bed behind a mid washroom, creating a different route between lounge, bathroom and bedroom.

These choices become personal very quickly. Two buyers can agree on the quality of the interior and still prefer different lounges. Sit in the seats you’ll actually use, check the television position and ask where the table lives when it’s packed away.

Is an older Coachman a better buy?

An older caravan can put a higher equipment level within reach, but the comparison needs a repair budget as well as a purchase price. Ask for damp reports, service records and evidence of work to heating, brakes, tyres and body seals.

Have every accessory listed in the sale agreement. If a tracker or connected service is fitted, establish how ownership transfers and whether a subscription is required. Don’t treat a tracker sticker as proof of an active service.

Before deciding, read our used leisure-vehicle buying checklist and arrange an independent inspection where appropriate.

Compare the layout with a rival before committing

Our Bailey caravan range guide and Swift caravan comparison provide useful alternatives if you’re still deciding how much width and equipment you need.

Take one preferred Coachman floorplan and compare it with a rival that has the same bed arrangement. Use the caravan buying pages by budget to keep the comparison realistic. Write down what improves your daily routine, what adds weight and what would need maintenance. That gives you a stronger basis for choosing than moving automatically to the next badge in the range.
