Bailey caravan ranges explained for new and used buyers

Bailey caravan adverts contain a mixture of names: Discovery, Phoenix, Pegasus, Unicorn, and older favourites such as Ranger and Pageant. Even within one family, a suffix like Grande, Deluxe or Black Edition can mark a meaningful difference.

The first task is to place the caravan in its own generation. From there, compare how much space it gives you, where the beds and washroom sit, and which equipment is fitted. This is especially useful when a newer entry-level caravan and an older premium model fall within the same budget.

Current range information checked on 17 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Discovery puts compact dimensions at the centre of the range.
  • Phoenix and Pegasus deserve separate consideration, particularly for body width.
  • Bailey’s latest Unicorn family includes Lite, Deluxe and Grande versions.
  • Older names and edition suffixes need their own model-year brochures.

What are the main Bailey caravan ranges?

Bailey’s October 2026 show line-up confirms Discovery, Phoenix Black Edition, Pegasus Grande Black Edition and the new Unicorn family. The table is a way to organise your shortlist; the individual floorplan remains the deciding factor.

Discovery makes you think carefully about the space you use

The official Discovery range describes three compact single-axle layouts, with options for up to four people. Its specification includes a kitchen with hob, grill and oven, plus a washroom with shower and toilet.

For a couple, the most revealing question is how the interior changes overnight. Ask to see the bed made up, then identify where bedding, coats and shoes will go. If you’re taking more people, check whether the dining space remains practical once everyone’s belongings are onboard.

Smaller dimensions can be useful, but don’t assume they guarantee a suitable tow-car match. Read the plate on the actual caravan and account for the equipment you plan to carry.

Phoenix and Pegasus make a useful side-by-side comparison

Phoenix Black Edition uses Truma Combi heating and lists a 92-litre fridge. The Pegasus Black Edition range uses an 8ft body and includes single- and twin-axle choices. Its kitchen specification varies between those versions.

View comparable layouts in both if possible. Stand where you’d normally cook while another person walks through. Try the dining arrangement with the table extended, and inspect the route around any fixed bed. This establishes whether the extra width solves a problem you’d otherwise notice every day.

Don’t assume a twin axle is part of every Pegasus description. Nor should you judge storage by the number of lockers alone: test the openings with the sort of folding chairs or bedding you actually carry.

The new Unicorn family needs more than one label

Unicorn Lite combines single-axle layouts with Truma Combi Neo heating. Unicorn Deluxe lists Alde radiator heating and a 137-litre tower fridge, while Unicorn Grande brings an 8ft body, twin axles and a larger 156-litre fridge.

Those are useful differences to investigate rather than a reason to choose by rank. A couple who prefer straightforward touring might value the dimensions of one layout more than a larger fridge. Someone taking extended stays may place greater weight on the heating arrangement or space around the bed.

Check the technical data for the precise model you’re viewing. Broad range descriptions can’t establish the weight of a caravan with a mover, battery and later additions already fitted.

What about Ranger, Pageant, Senator and Alicanto adverts?

These names belong to earlier Bailey collections. Bailey maintains a pre-owned range archive, which is a better starting point for identifying an older caravan than a current sales brochure.

Ask the seller for the full model name, year, floorplan and service paperwork. An advert that says only “Bailey four berth” leaves too much unresolved: the beds might be fixed, made from the lounge, arranged as bunks or combined in another way.

On an older premium caravan, condition can matter more than the original equipment list. Request a damp report, look for documented repairs and have the running gear and habitation systems assessed. Our second-hand caravan buying advice helps organise those checks. Plan any required work into your budget before comparing it with a newer example.

How Bailey compares with other caravan shortlists

If you’re weighing up another manufacturer, compare matching bed arrangements and similar dimensions. Our Swift caravan range comparison helps you make that comparison without relying on the manufacturers’ range names to mean the same thing.

For a tighter budget, browse caravans between £5,000 and £10,000 alongside your preferred Bailey examples. Use the same checklist for every viewing: bed access, daytime seating, condition, included equipment and a checked towing combination.

A useful next step before viewing

Pick one compact layout and one more spacious alternative, then ask both sellers for a floorplan, weight-plate photograph and recent service evidence. That small comparison will tell you whether your real priority is a shorter caravan, a wider lounge, a permanent bed or better equipment. You can then spend your viewing time on the differences that matter.
